There was a recent article in the Courier-Journal by Grace Schneider that has a number of interesting facts.
Claypool, whom he noted had moved to an apartment above a downtown Corydon restaurant last winter.
“I’ve dedicated my legal career to Harrison County. I’ve been here all my life. He’s been here since February,” Byrd said of Claypool. We will be rolling out more facts on Claypool as the race goes on. But many questions remain. A search of property records show that Claypool has never owned property or ever paid property taxes in Harrison County- ever. He says he is renting an apartment above where Jocko's used to be, but for how long? This is July, so has Claypool been there since July of last year and how often is he sleeping there? Perhaps he could provide a copy of the lease to clear things up, or even some utility bills. Or maybe some utility bills from Jeffersonville.
Claypool said he moved to Corydon a year ago but has worked for the state Gaming Commission in Harrison since 2006. He also did criminal defense until he became a gaming agent and was prohibited from taking cases, he said.
We will have some additional information on Claypool's lack of experience pretty soon as well. Court records are easily accessed online, and Claypool's name never comes up on any case in the Harrison Superior Court, where he seeks to be the Judge. Is it too much to ask that someone should have practiced law in the court he wants to be the Judge of????
