This is really the last chance to vote early in this primary. Go the 2nd floor of the Courthouse from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and vote early! And remember to ask for a Democratic ballot!

• Monday: 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Also, if you requested an absentee ballot and have not yet returned the ballot, do so as soon as possible, as it must arrive to the County Clerk by Tuesday.

What you will need to vote

As you probably know, Indiana was the very state in the Republican strategy of voter suppression with our state's strict photo I.D. requirement in order to vote. Many other states have pushed forward with this discriminatory policy since then to try to keep people from exercising their right to vote as well. That being said, you will need a photo I.D. in order to vote, and the identification must meet specific conditions.

From the Indiana Secretary of State, here are the requirements:

Your photo ID must meet 4 criteria to be acceptable for voting purposes. It Must:

1. Display your photo

2. Display your name, and the name must conform to your voter registration record. Conform does not mean identical. Below are examples of names that would conform to "Robert John Crew"

3. Display an expiration date and either be current or have expired sometime after the date of the last General Election (November 6, 2012)

• NOTE: An ID issued by the US Department of Defense, a branch of the uniformed services, the Merchant Marine, or the Indiana National Guard is not required to have an expiration date, or may state that the document has an "Indefinite" expiration date.

4. Be issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government

In most cases, an Indiana driver license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID or U.S. Passport is sufficient.
A student ID from an Indiana State school may only be used if it meets all of the 4 criteria specified above. A student ID from a private institution may not be used for voting purposes. For more Information for College Students click here.

If you are unable or unwilling to present ID meeting these requirements, you may cast a provisional ballot. If you cast a provisional ballot, you have until noon 10 days after the election to follow up with the county election board and either provide the necessary documentation or affirm one of the law’s exemptions applies to you.

Absentee and Early Voting

The primary election is quickly approaching. There are several contested races in the Democratic Primary, and it is important to show support for the party by requesting a Democratic ballot. The Indiana Primary is Tuesday May 6 from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. You will need a photo I.D. to vote. There will also be early voting in the Clerk's Office Monday through Friday from 8:00-4:00, with the office closed from 12:00-1:00 for lunch. It will also be open on the next two Saturdays from 8:00-3:00. The day before the election, the office will only be open from 8:00-12:00. The Clerk's Office is on the 2nd floor of the Courthouse, downtown. You will also need a photo I.D. to vote in the Clerk's Office.

There is also still time to vote absentee. However, the Clerk must receive the application by Monday, April 28 at noon in order to mail out the absentee ballot. The Clerk must receive your ballot back in their office by Election Day. Here is a list of the things that would allow you to vote absentee:

1. You have a specific, reasonable expectation that you will be absent from the county on Election Day during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open (6 am until 6 pm).
2. You have a disability.
3. You are at least 65 years of age.
4. You will have official election duties outside of your voting precinct.
5. You are scheduled to work at your regular place of employment during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
6. You will be confined due to illness or injury or you will be caring for an individual confined due to illness or injury during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
7. You are prevented from voting because of a religious discipline or religious holiday during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
8. You are a participant in the state's address confidentiality program.
9. You are a member of the military or a public safety officer.
