Rest in Peace Former Democratic Chairman Don Hamblen, 1928-2014

Our thoughts and prayers with Don's family. Don was the Democratic County Chairman in the 1980s. Under Don's leadership, Democrats swept the countywide ticket in 1986. He will be missed. We have attached the obituary from the local newspaper.

Donald L. Hamblen, 86, Lanesville, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Rolling Hills Health Center in New Albany.

Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Brown County, he was the son of the late James W. and Mary Etta Morrison Hamblen.

He was retired from sales and service at Horning Inc. in Indianapolis, a past president of the Lanesville Town Council, a former Harrison County Democratic Party chairman, a former 4-H Club leader of the Lanesville Hillbillies, a former bar keep at K&H in Lanesville and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Clara L. Baker; six brothers, Jesse, Plessie, John, Raymond, Pleasant and James; and five sisters, Tressa, Flora, Wilma, Alva and Wanda.

Survivors include three sons, D. Kent Hamblen of Birmingham, Ala., Matthew S. Hamblen of Murray, Ky., and Stuart W. Hamblen of Angola; two daughters, Elaine Y. Hamblen of Lanesville and Kaye M. Walraven of Apple Valley, Calif.; a sister, Wanda Wilson of Columbus; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life: Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church near Edwardsville.

Memorial service: Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville with burial in St. John’s Cemetery.

Officiant: Pastor Christopher Truelsen.

Pallbearers: Jacob Hamblen, Brian Balsley, Jake Walraven, Jeff and Brad Hanni and Don Whitely.

Arrangements: Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
